Thanks, so much, Andrew, for pointing out this story.

I have to remain agnostic about what the 12 "moderate" Republicans are actually trying to do. That is, whether Punchbowl or you have correctly got the intent of those 12 Republicans.

With politicians, and particularly Republican politicians, being as deceptive as they often are, I wouldn't be surprised if you have it right -- that the 12 Republicans are, in fact, in a deceptive fashion, signing on to drop the 90% federal funding for the Medicaid expansion population.

I'll watch the issue, and in particular, I am keen to see how sharply the New York Times manages to cover this issue.

Of course, the loss of Federal funding of the 90% level for the expansion population would wreck the ACA, which even as it is (and even with some expiring Biden-era fixes) is a good bit short of affordable health insurance for everyone in the country.

(No need for me to point out to you that, during the campaign in which Trump was elected, he insisted he had done the right thing during his first term and made the ACA run as well a possible, and would continue to do the same this term. Never mind that that was patently false for a few reasons that we both know, but anyway he said he would make the ACA run as well as possible this term.

As well, the Vice President during the campaign said for the first time his extended family members managed to get health coverage under the ACA, though I think his exact words may have been a bit tricky, and he might in fact have been setting up repeal or defunding the Medicaid expansion.)

Thanks again, Andrew, for bringing this issue to our attention.

its worse than it sounds....this will affect everyone's health insurance premiums - even from employers or private insurance plans..if the ACA extended Medicaid plans are cut then it creates a larger pool of older american on the private insurance pool and many will be uninsured... this will inturn cause everyone's premiums to go up for anyone with private insurance and many people will lose their health insurance all together due to increased premiums. The bill cuts the supplemental payments for ACA and that will also cause an increase in premiums. Any cause of people losing their insurance will increase the uninsured costs to all Americans. Memory care was cut, Nursing homes will lose funding to keep open, rural hospitals will lose funding from medicaid covered patients and supplemental monies for service to Medicaid patients - so rural hospitals who are already (many) about to close will be shuttered. This will create more chaos then it seems. The nursing home closures will cause overall system failures for hospitals as well. Oh and by the way women's health care benefits were cut for preventative care AND reproductive care. Essentially the bill will cause people will die due to these cuts due to poor access to health care, increased costs, and failure to protect the public.
